Online Home Based Businesses - A Simple Piece Of Advice

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009
by David Lim

No need to hide your credit card because this article is not about selling you stuff. This article is about a little piece of advice which you probably have heard many times before. The advice I am talking about is:

“You can’t get something for nothing”

If I could get inside your head, I know what you will think. “Who is this guy trying to fool? Tell me something I don’t know.”

Absolutely. When your girlfriend smiles sweetly at you, laughs at all your jokes and praises you to the high heavens in front of your friends, you enjoy it while you can. And while you are enjoying all that, you hide your credit card. :)
But many of us suspend that same healthy skepticism when we enter the online world.

There are tons of websites that promise that you will make thousands of dollars a month for work that a 9 year old can do. What’s more, they tell you that you probably need to work just for an hour or two per day to make that amount.

Such websites do well because it seems that when we come online, we lose our healthy skepticism.

And with their promise of early retirement and having more free time, who won’t be tempted? Some might actually be skeptical but wanted to try their luck. After all, it’s just a few dollars.

And I won’t think too much about the money lost when you decide to take a chance with these type of sites. But I would be very mindful of the time wasted on such sites. Money lost can be earned again, but time lost is gone forever.

These sites are on every single corner of the web.

Engage your healthy skepticism the next time you encounter such a site, and click the back button. A full time income on the web can be accomplished, but only if you spend your time productively.

Apple’s iCal As A ScreenSaver?

Monday, June 1st, 2009
by Thom Yarbrough

Macintosh iCal users know that screen savers have come a long way since the days when those kitschy winged toasters used to float around the screen when your computer was resting. But even most savvy Macintosh users don’t know that screensavers used to serve a technical function. Screen savers first came about in the days when computers had monochrome CRT monitors. They were designed to prevent phosphor burn-in, and those screensavers served their purpose well, flying toasters, swimming fish, tail-wagging puppies and all.

We all know that in the years since the personal computer came into use, Macintosh has revolutionized the computer industry. CRT monitors have gone the way of the dinosaur, and all computers now have LCD computer monitors. Screensavers aren’t necessary because burn-in isn’t an issue. But we’ve come to love our screen savers. If you’re using your Macintosh at the office, your screen saver provides privacy from your boss and co-workers prying eyes.

Now screen savers serve more than just privacy issues. They can also serve to express our identity with photos and graphics. Sophisticated Macintosh users who use iCal and Address Book might want a more functional screensaver. Now they can have one. A company named PocketMac has come up with a program called PocketMac iCalScreenSaver. This great new tool projects all of your iCal appointments onto your screen saver when your computer’s resting. Your screensaver cycles through your iCal calendar day by day, week by week, until your entire month’s schedule is lit up on your screen. It can also display your Address Book contacts, if you choose.

You have the option of customizing PocketMac iCalScreenSaver in four individual color schemes: sunset, blue-grey, tangerine and green. And you have the option to pick which of your calendars you want to display on your iCal screen saver. You can choose your business appointments to show up onscreen at your office and your personal appointments can appear at home, if that’s what you choose. You can also exclude personal appointments from your iCal screensaver.

It’s really simple to install PocketMac iCalScreenSaver on your Macintosh.

Home-Based Business Opportunities Necessitate Good Time Management Strategies

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009
by Stephen Beck

Running home-based business opportunities can be very challenging. One area of struggle for many people is how to manage their business time. Here are some strategies that will help you in the process.

1. Make A To-Do List

The night before you start working, write down each task that you have to complete the following day. Do not bother to list tasks you can delegate to someone else. Have your list nearby so you can refer to it throughout the day. You do not have to do everything as anything that you did not get done you can do the next day.

The purpose of the list is to keep you focused, as there are many distractions that will occur during the day. Prioritize your list with the most important tasks at the top. This way if a lot of other issues come up, you took care of the most important tasks.

2. Manage email effectively

Checking email can waste a lot of your time when building home-based business opportunities. It typically leads to one thing after another and gets you off course. You should check your email at a scheduled time during the day so that it does not interfere with your high payoff activities and you can better manage your time and schedule.

Sometimes people think that if you only read and not reply to email it does not hurt your business. The problem with that is you still waste time even if you are not replying to emails because of you start to think about how you are going to handle the email

3. Avoid pointless web surfing online

Wasting time surfing on the internet is very easy when you run home-based business opportunities. You may not notice how much time you spend on surfing activity that is not productive. Obviously, the internet has some use in building your business. That being said, you need to make sure you restrict non-productive use. Productive internet use is anything that generates revenue for your business, like internet marketing and advertising related activities.

4. Unmonitored phone time can hurt you

Depending on what type of home based business opportunities you are promoting, you may have to spend a lot of time on the phone. However, there is a difference between productive calls and unproductive calls. You should screen your incoming calls either through a personal assistant or a voice mail so you are not wasting your time. When you are working on your most important activities, avoid answering the phone during those times. Instead use that time to generate business by developing content and driving traffic to your web site.

As the owner of home-based business, opportunity time is money. Therefore you want to make sure you manage your time effectively. Doing so will help you to make more money from your business in the process.

In order to make data collection more efficient, however, you might want to take a look at Time Study RN, which is a tool made specifically to help nurses specify the details on how they use their time at work.

It is important to note that hospitals often conduct such time studies and other work related studies in order to find ways to increase productivity in each department, reduce number of blunders or mix-ups, and also to drastically eradicate wasteful practices. With a Time Study RN, the task of gathering information or logging hourly activities is made convenient with the use of a device very similar to PDAs. You can be assured that this tool is valuable in helping you make informed decisions when it comes to finding best practices as well as eliminating inefficiency and incompetence.

These time studies, which are also conducted in many corporations, are standard for hospitals that want to provide the best possible service to their patients. There are actually still some institutions that rely on manual logging and the use of pens and papers to collect data.

One advantage of using Time Study RN is that it is very much like a PDA. Logging updates and tasks on such a device can be very easy and fast. Also, it is important to note that like a regular PDA, this time study tool for nurses automatically uploads the data collected. Thus, the result of study can easily be processed and analyzed in no time at all.

Its flexibility can correspond to any nursing department or any specific circumstance that nurses have to attend to. After all, what happens in one department may not be true in another ward. With this device, a hospital definitely has the right tool to better grasp its operational procedures.

Aside from being a valuable information-collecting device, Time Study RN is also designed to tailor-fit to your needs. How To Organize Traditional Wedding Timelines

Friday, May 22nd, 2009
by Randolph Quan

Any good event planner will tell you that a well-organized event has each activity planned down to the minute. Your wedding shouldn’t be any different. Without a schedule, you could run out of time at your reception venue If you have a wedding or day-of coordinator, they’ll likely have a schedule ready to go that they’ll distribute to all applicable people.

If you’re organizing on your own, take some time about a week before the wedding to figure out what’s going to happen when. After you’re confirmed everything, give a copy of the schedule to anyone who might need to know what’s coming next: Most importantly, the coordinator at your reception venue and the DJ who’s emceeing the event. You should also consider giving one to your maid of honor (who can help keep things on track if things get off-schedule), the caterer, the head of the waitstaff and your parents.

While all weddings are going to have its own special needs, a traditional wedding timeline looks something like this.

Hour zero: Cocktail hour. The ceremony is complete and the guests are arriving at the reception venue. The bar is open, hors d’ouerves are being passed and people are mingling. The bride, groom and wedding party might be having pictures taken. The cocktail hour could begin immediately if being house in the same location as the ceremony, or it might begin 30 minutes later if travel is necessary.

Hour one: Grand entrance. The bridal party arrives at the reception venue with the bridal party in tow. The DJ or emcee announces the bridesmaids and groomsmen, then ends with the bride and groom. Many couples choose to have their first dance at this time so guests can immediately begin dancing after dinner if they so choose.

Hour 1.5: Dinnertime. The waitstaff begins serving the first course. The happy couple sometimes uses this time while everyone is seated to go from table to table to greet their guests. Even better is having a post-ceremony receiving line to thank each person as they leave the church. That way, the mr. and mrs. can eat as well.

Hour 2.5: Speeches. While people are finishing up their main course, this is the time to get talking. Parents of the bride and groom, as well as the maid of honor and best man, speak their peace about the bride and groom, ending with a happy toast.

Hour 3: It’s party time. Begin the dancing with the first dance, if not done before, or kick it off with the traditional father-daughter and mother-son dance. Then invite your guests to come out and groove with you.

Hour 3.5: Cutting of the cake. Whether you smear cake on each other’s faces is your call. The cutting of the cake typically means that it’s OK for guests to leave, so make sure you don’t do it too early - you risk the older guests cutting out early - or too late, because you don’t want grandma to fall asleep at her table.

Time Management and Organization for Busy Moms

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009
by Carla Whiting

Many mothers juggle a full-time job while trying to maintain the home for their spouse and children. While it is easy to become overwhelmed, there are a few practical steps that busy mothers can take to save time and cut down on their stress levels.

1. Plan your menus: Planning has a lot of advantages allowing you to save money and enjoy meal times that are no longer harried and stressful.

2. Prepare Meals in Advance - Cook two or three meals at a time; serve one, freeze the others. It’s really no harder to cook a double portion of the same dish and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you already have another meal or two ready to eat!

3. Community Meal Rotations - The mothers in the rotation group take turns making the evening meals during the week. It is possible to cut cooking time to one night a week although you will be preparing for a larger number of people.

4. Errands - Route your errands to be taken care of on the way to and from work. By taking care of errands on the way to someplace else, you will save gas and time and not feel so overwhelmed.

5. Car Pool - Taking turns getting kids to and from school or sharing a ride with other working moms can be fun and time-saving as well.

6. Task Allocation - To manage time more effectively have your family help out. Create a schedule of responsibility and everyone can share in the rewards of more quality time. Things will get lighter and enjoyable when done with company.

7. Segment Housework - Segment each household task according to importance. Cleaning the house can be done one to two tasks each day. Maintain cleanliness to avoid an overload of work and dirt.

8. Learn to say “no” and stop trying to be a supermom. When you over-commit you will never be able to manage your time.

Freshmen; Here’s What You Need to Know

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009
by Daniel Z. Kane

Nearly all the college students who make it to their junior year successfully complete college.

And, a pretty high percentage of college students who complete their sophomore year return for their junior year.

It is the freshman year that students find most challenging, and it is the freshman year when they are most likely to drop out. It’s not too hard to figure out why. The first year of college is a time of transition and adjustment, and neither is easy. However, if students follow a few simple rules, they’ll be OK. Here are five.

1. Don’t cut classes. Missing classes is the single worst thing you can do.

2. Manage your time intelligently by making a schedule and having the self-discipline to stay with it. Do not ever study or sleep fewer hours than scheduled.

3. Don’t get behind. Review the syllabus in each of your courses, be aware of when assignments are due, and know when the busiest periods of the semester will be for you. That way you can do your best work without having to cram or be under the kind of stress students feel when they have not stayed on top of their coursework.

4. It’s easy to “go wild” when you are first away from your parents and their rules. But, if you do a lot of drinking, fail to get enough sleep, and/or put your social life ahead of your educational goals, you will soon regret doing so. Be responsible.

5. Make college your home…become engaged. Reach out to new people. Join a club or activity. See that you take advantage of all that’s available to you on campus.

There is no magic fomula to ensure success in college, but the five afforementioned suggestions are a great start. If you follow them, things should fall into place for you.

Recession Time and What to Do About It

Friday, April 24th, 2009
by Joe Harbinger

Generally, individuals barely even notice that an economic recession is happening because the government is normally swift to act on it, and because of its power they are able to stabilize the nation’s economy before much damage is done. Still, recently, the drives of the government and their plans were not sufficient to stop this downward spiral of the economic system.

The increasing prices in fossil fuels impacting on the costs of primary commodities, individuals are scrimping on things they normally purchase and this has seriously impacted on companies, leading to unemployment and fiscal strains. The realty industry has also crashed leaving numerous foreclosed properties because people just can’t pay the monthly premium anymore.

The aforementioned goes with the bank and insurance spheres who are also feeling the heat of the economic recession. Here are some of the affairs that you should know about how a recession affects your daily life and the problems it can do to you if you don’t watch out. It can force unemployment upon you - economic downturn is a period well-known for job losses when demand for products diminishes and businesses lose their money - the only way they can exist is to reduce their labor costs. They can rationalize this as there will also be reduction in production, so if you are one of the unlucky few who are employed by a business experiencing such losses, you might lose your job.

in an attempt to gear up for this situation, do your best to look into the financial strength of the business where you are employed and take heed to the work gossip concerning potential layoffs. Normally, you will be aware if a company is losing money so if you feel that your company is losing money, make a emergency plan just in case you become jobless. This is particularly true if you are working in the assembly line. It can make life harder - costs will often be high throughout an economic slowdown as a smaller supply of wares will create a rise in the costs. Although the government will try to balance the situation out by introducing tax reduction, this may not be of any use particularly if there have been numerous job losses.

Normally families often attempt to stint on their day to day expenses, no longer going for their regular entertainment - although, it has been seen that picture show ticket sales go up during a period of economic recession. This is perhaps because individuals want to blank out their issues for a spell and just delight in the world of fantasy. It is not going to be forever - one bright thing that individuals can look ahead to is the fact that economic slowdown is not go to last forever. As mentioned before, recession is part of a cycle and when you are down, the only way you can go is up, that is why, for the meantime the goal during these challenging times is to ride the waves and live.
